  1. Let the day go to the dogs at the 8th Annual Cardiff Dog Days of Summer. Pet products, pet adoptions and plenty of pooches line the streets of Cardiff on Saturday.
  2. Exhibits. Opening this weekend: Crossing Cultures at San Diego History Center (Monday). Closing this weekend: Yumi at Spanish Village Art Center (Monday). Notable art events: Green Art Parade at Art Produce on Saturday, Target Free Second Sunday at The New Children’s Museum on Sunday and Summer Break at The San Diego Museum of Art through Saturday.
  3. Gaze at the stars during this weekend’s Star Fest in Julian. Happening all weekend long, this event is awesome with lectures, activities and tons of star gazing opportunities.
  4. Have fun at the Hillcrest CityFest on Sunday. This annual street fair includes music, games, crafts, food, drinks and lots of fun.
  5. Participate in CicloSDias on Sunday. The only requirement in this fun day of festivities is being sans car. The route takes participants thru the streets of Logan Heights to City Heights.
  6. Become an expert on beer at Beer-Con 2013 all weekend. Normally we don’t like to include activities that cost a lot on this blog (we are pretty poor/cheap after all) but this event is too cool not to mention. A beer conference with lectures and some of the biggest names in craft beer will be in attendance!
  7. Grab a lemon at the Chula Vista Lemon Festival on Sunday. The 17th annual festival will be filled with lemon contests (biggest lemon, lemonade drinking contest, lemon pie eating contest), music, food and over 200 vendors.
  8. Appreciate Philippine culture at the Philippine Cultural Arts Festival all weekend in Balboa Park. Visitors will enjoy fun performances, music, costumes and delicious food. It’s the festival’s 27th year!
  9. Watch some great tennis as the USTA’s Girls 16s and 18s National Championships finish up this weekend. See which teenage superstar will win in each category.
  10. Enjoy the festivities at the International Cottages and their Lawn Program on Sunday. This weekend, the House of Panama hosts with food, music and costume in Balboa Park.

  2. See some exhibits. Opening this weekend: Car Toys at San Diego Automotive Museum, Second Time Around: Fashion Recycled at Visions Art Museum, Supporting Roles: Photographs & Fiber from Ann Scott at Visions Art Museum, 2013 Chinese Brush Painting Society Show at Spanish Art Village, Wonder Women: On Paper and Off at Women’s Museum of California, Intersections: Charles Arnoldi at Oceanside Museum of Art, Approximately Infinite Universe at Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego: La Jolla and The Magic of Windansea at California Surf Museum. Closing this weekend: Fallbrook Art Association’s Juried Show at Fallbrook Art Center and In Search of Shadows: James Hubbell Sculpture at Oceanside Museum of Art.
  3. Buy some pottery at the Potter’s Guild Spring Sale in Balboa Park. This event fills the entire Spanish Art Village all weekend and gives visitors the opportunity to talk to the artists and pick from thousands of pottery pieces to buy and bring home.
  4. Celebrate 5 years at the Little Italy Mercato. The Mercato has been in operation for 5 years as of Saturday. Go walk around the market to pick up local produce and participate in special festivities for the anniversary.
  5. Get your “opa” on at the San Diego Greek Festival all weekend long. Happening near Balboa Park, this annual event is full of food, drinks, dancing and fun.
  6. Discover eateries in the Gaslamp at the 20th Annual Taste of Gaslamp on Saturday and Sunday. 25 different eateries will be featured as well as a beer garden–get your tickets in advance for a discount!
  7. Watch the first night of The Merchant of Venice at The Old Globe on Sunday. The show is one of the three plays for the Shakespeare Festival this Summer at the Globe. After Sunday, this show’s regular schedule won’t start until the 25th.
  8. Hop in some cars at the Touch A Truck San Diego event on Saturday. Military cars, emergency vehicle cars, monster trucks, classic cars and more will take over Qualcomm Stadium. And you can climb in them all and pretend they’re your ride! Food, music and Star Wars characters running amok will await you!
  9. Tell a story on Sunday night at the Long Story Short event at Space 4 Art. Anyone can tell their unscripted 5 minute story for an audience at this free event or just listen to other performers as they relate their harrowing (but short!) tales.
  10. Experience the Lawn Program at the International Cottages in Balboa Park on Sunday. For this weekend’s Program, the House of Philippines hosts–they’re sure to have great music, food and dancing since they’re also celebrating Philippine Independence Day.
