11 Places To Go in San Diego After the Rain

Balboa Park, San Diego

San Diego gets barely any rain.  For natives like us (or maybe only us…), rain is a novelty that’s savored  as much as possible.  We look forward to the forecast when rain’s on the way; we sip tea while the rain sprinkles throughout the city.  We even milk the after rain experience when the city transforms with the extra moisture in the air.  If you want to enjoy the rain for all it’s worth, here are 11 places to go in San Diego after the rain:

  1. Point Loma Lighthouse.  Point Loma has great views of the water and downtown San Diego…plus fresh air!
  2. Shelter Island or Harbor Island.  Walk around a little right by the water.
  3. Coronado, near the Hotel Del Coronado.  Coronado is a great place to experience anything–after the rain is no exception.
  4. Oak Canyon Trail in Mission Trails.  If you’re up for an easy hike, go to Mission Trails starting at the Old Padre Dam.  The Oak Canyon Trail follows a stream that gets better with rain.
  5. Balboa Park.  The grass, trees, flowers and all plants burst alive with the extra moisture.  Plus it’s Wednesday, so it’s less crowded than a weekend.
  6. Top of Mount Helix.  Drive up to the top and enjoy 360* views of San Diego and San Diego County.  Visibility is better after the rain so it’s a great time to see far out into the Pacific.
  7. Solana Beach.  Since we are here today, our personal experience enables us to tell you how beautiful it is right now!
  8. Top of the Hyatt in Downtown San Diego.  Great views of the city and the San Diego Bay.
  9. Any Starbucks.  What’s better in cool weather than a tea or coffee?
  10. Gardens.  Two good ones: San Diego Botanical Gardens and South Bay Botanic Gardens.
  11. The Living Coast Discovery Center (Known before as the Chula Vista Nature Center).  Great place to walk around, get fresh air and enjoy the after effects of the rain.
